2015 Ontario & New England Spring Break in Montreal

February 17, 2015
Skating Old Port, Wall of fame CH Montreal, Grevin Musuem, Circus OZ

Spring break Montreal style

Spring break is nearly here! For our neighbours from Ontario and New England, spring break comes at a time when there are still plenty of fun activities to enjoy in Quebec, including excellent spring skiing conditions! Ontario spring break lines up from Mar. 14 to Mar. 22, 2015. New England spring break has several start dates for their spring break, depending on the school level and district. Whenever your spring break starts, there are two great ways to enjoy it to the fullest: take your choice of a weekend getaway in Montreal, or opt for the full weeklong experience! Booking an affordable Montreal hotel in a great location will allow you to enjoy a variety of activities without breaking your budget. Our downtown Montreal hotel suites provide families and guest the perfect home base for their many adventures in the city or out.

Option 1 – Weekend Getaway in Montreal

Don’t have the time for a full week in Montreal? No problem! There’s still plenty of fun to be had with your whole family in our weekend getaway option one:

  • Book your home base! Choose an affordable downtown Montreal hotel suite with a kitchenette. Being in the downtown area gives you close proximity to many of the events and activities you’ll want to check out.
  • Watch Disney on Ice’s “Frozen.” As possibly the most popular Disney/Pixar film to date, your kids will love the on-ice adaptation that includes all of their favorite characters from the film. Show is open from March 4 to 8 at the Bell Center.
  • Grévin Montreal. Located in the Eaton Center downtown, the Grévin wax museum is super easy to get to and way more exciting than you may think! Kids love to visit where make believe comes to life.
  • Skating in Montreal’s Old Port. Don’t worry, you can rent skates at the rink as well as access lockers, washrooms and snack bars. This rink offers incredible views of the Old Port & City, especially after dark when the buildings are lit up. Your family will remember this.
  • Visit the Montreal Canadian Hall of Fame. While watching a game is even better, it may be difficult to get tickets this time of year. Take a walk through the Hab’s Hall of Fame instead! You’ll find tons of fun, little known facts, and rare memorabilia to entertain the whole gang.
  • Circus Oz. From March 5 to 15, 2015 you can take in this fun Australian circus! Acrobatics and energetic entertainment for the whole family.

Option 2 – 4 days Montreal + 2 Days Eastern Township/Quebec City

Opting for an entire week in Quebec? Great! Start off with Option 1’s ideas and add in a few more activities to round out your weeklong getaway. Finish it off with a visit to the historical capital city: Quebec City.

  • Sledding in Montreal. Check out our previous article for more details on the best places to rent tubes and go sledding in the city.
  • Skiing in the Eastern Townships. Rent a car or take advantage of one of the many ski shuttles to the nearby ski destinations in Mt. Orford, Bromont, Owl’s Head, Sutton. There’s also a great 25% discount on lift tickets for spring breakers if you get a “Ski dans l’est passport.”
  • Ice Fishing on Sainte-Anne River. On the way to Quebec City you’ll find a small town called Sainte-Anne-de-la-Perade. Famous throughout the world for their ice fishing experience, this is a lot of fun for the entire family. Be sure to make reservations before you head out because it fills up. The town itself is situated on Autoroute 40 about 50km after Trois Rivieres.
  • Skiing Quebec City. Don’t forget to try some of the ski destinations near Quebec City like le Massif de Charlevoix, Stoneham or Mont Sainte Anne.
  • Tour the old city. You simply can’t beat the history and charm of Old Quebec. Be sure to sign up for a tour to discover the interesting stories that make up the city.
  • Head home! Head back to Montreal to check out of your downtown Montreal hotel suite, get shuttled to the airport, or pack up the car to travel home ready for school to start!
